Scaler 3 Standalone Portable is a desktop and iPad application that functions as a complete, DAW-independent music theory workstation. It allows you to detect scales, compose complex chord progressions, write melodies, and arrange whole works with built-in sounds or third-party plugins.
Since Scaler 3 Standalone, these chord progressions have been far easier to experiment with and include in my productions. Scaler 3’s ability to search your VST directories and use effects and plugins within its environment is an intriguing feature.
User Interface:
Scaler 3’s standalone user interface serves as a specialized music theory workstation, allowing you to compose complete arrangements without a DAW.

Browse (scales and chord sets), create (harmonic connections and progressions), and arrange (tracks for chords, melodies, and basslines), all with built-in instrument plugins and live MIDI/audio detection capabilities.
What’s New:
- Scaler 3 standalone software transforms it from a simple chord plugin to a full-fledged creative tool.
- It enables developers to host third-party VST/AU instruments and effects directly, run completely independent of a DAW, and route entire sequences to external hardware.
Features
Standalone Flexibility:
Scaler 3 Standalone works as a standalone program on your desktop (macOS/Windows) or iPad, allowing you to sketch musical ideas and compose without launching a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).
Built-in VST/AU hosting:
Unlike the plugin version, the standalone program lets you load third-party instrument and effect plugins directly into the mixing and MIDI lanes.
Audio and MIDI detection:
New features include live audio and MIDI detection, which allows you to record instruments or drag-and-drop audio files into the program to find their key.
MIDI Export:
Simply drag and drop finalized chords, basslines, or melodies from Scaler’s main track into your preferred DAW timeline.
Release Notes of Scaler 3 Standalone Portable:

- Fixed strummed sequences that weren’t activating from DAW MIDI input.
- Improved Logic Pro’s MIDI capture timing.
System Requirements:
- Windows: Windows 8 or higher
- RAM/Storage: Minimum system RAM and hard drive space generally required by modern DAWs (no specific heavy footprint)
- Bit Depth: 64-bit only
- Plugin Hosting: In addition to working as a standalone application, the desktop version features internal plugin hosting for VST and AU formats to allow a DAW-less workflow
How to Use?
- Scaler 3 Standalone phrases, performances, melodies, and basslines have been rebuilt as motions, which include mood-based categories for better browsing. Scaler 3 includes hundreds of new Motions designed by professional musicians, including the all-new Passages Motion.
- A complex note-editing matrix allows users to personalize or build new motions. MIDI lanes can be set to follow or run independently of chord tracks, with new harmonic modifiers and motion controls for adjusting note range, density, pitch, and clip rotation.
- The entire keyboard is now available for key lock profiles, allowing basslines and melodies to perfectly match scale and chord structures. The new Chord Scale profile recognizes chords and automatically adjusts locked notes to match the appropriate scale or mode.
