DaisyDisk Portable was created to help Mac users optimize their current disk space in a way that is safe, quick, and easy. This app has made it easier to identify large files and remove them in a visually pleasing manner.
DaisyDisk has been used on my MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur for the majority of this year, and I have found that one of its biggest advantages is the visible perspective it gives you on all of the out-of-sight, out-of-mind files and applications that you have on your Mac.
User Interface:
The interface centers the hard drive root and shows a hierarchical structure of the hard drive’s file system that radiates from that center.

The files themselves are always shown as gray, but the daisy is color-coded to distinguish between folders; DaisyDisk also provides a legend for these color codes in the interface’s right sidebar.
What’s New:
- Finally, a whole fresh look that goes well with the new OS design.
- Scanning is much faster—up to 20 times faster! It now just takes a few seconds to scan, compared to minutes in the past. Based on the CPU and disk models you have. The speed gain is especially apparent on more current SSDs and 4-core CPUs.
- considerably lower memory usage.
- A few little improvements and modifications.
Features:
Speed:
I have 121 GB of flash storage on my Mac with around 100 GB in use. The 14 seconds it took to scan my HDD are not really a complaint. On his Mac, which has a better processor and a 500 GB disk (of which 188 GB are currently in use), my friend typically uses DaisyDisk. DaisyDisk reportedly scanned his disk in ten seconds. It took nine minutes and eight seconds to scan his 1000 GB external drive (884 GB in use).
Interactiveness:
DaisyDisk nearly seems like a funny app. The sector diagram that shows your data takes up more space for larger files. Simply click on the segment to see more details, and the display will “drill” down.
Attach numerous disks:
You can connect many disks to DaisyDisk in order to scan and optimize them. These include Macintosh HD, Thunderbolt disk, flash, network storage, etc.
Before you delete, preview:
DaisyDisk makes it simple to quickly view your files and decide if you want to delete them. You can preview the file, which opens it with a built-in Quick Look, or show it in Finder, which takes you to the actual location of the file, with only a right-click (or two-finger click).
The removal countdown:
To remove files, just drag & drop them into the collector located in DaisyDisk’s lower left corner. Files will sit here until you click the delete button, then a 5-second countdown will occur before they are fully erased. This window is useful if you accidentally hit the delete button too soon. The files are permanently destroyed, not placed in the trash, after the countdown runs out.
Release Notes of DaisyDisk macOS Portable:
- Significantly improved the discovery of hidden space by including more system areas in the scan. In many cases, nearly all hidden space can be revealed.
- Added keyboard navigation in the scanned report (yes, finally!)
- Added the “Expand ‘smaller objects’” and the “Always expand ‘smaller objects’” commands to the Go menu. The expanded state is now remembered for each folder.
- Added the ability to drag & drop app bundles and packages onto DaisyDisk to be scanned as folders.
- Added Portuguese 🇵🇹 language.
- Fixed the display of network disks’ host names.
- Cloud: Added the separate Scan Cloud button for better discoverability (previously it was located under the Scan Folder button).
How to Use?
- You may use DaisyDisk to scan a disk that you see in Finder.
- Except for network drives, the program determines the physical file size rather than the logical one.
- Similar to Finder, bundles show up as solid items.
- DaisyDisk may be useful for monitoring since, by deleting any files in-app, it updates the free space for each volume in real time.
- You might occasionally wish to instruct DaisyDisk to “forget” some scan results if you have less than 2GB of RAM, because scanned snapshots can require hundreds of megabytes of RAM.
- If you remove any files within the application, stuff under the hood, DaisyDisk automatically updates the disk map, but it is unable to monitor changes made by the Finder or other programs.
